Conversational Practice for Travelers: Navigating Everyday Situations in the US

Esta aula é voltada para viajantes que desejam praticar o inglês para situações cotidianas nos Estados Unidos. Através de cenários realistas, os alunos irão praticar diálogos que envolvem pedir ajuda, trocar dinheiro, realizar check-in em hotéis e fazer pedidos em restaurantes. Os personagens (Viajante e Local, Comprador e Segurança, Hóspede e Recepcionista, Cliente e Garçom) irão interagir para resolver problemas específicos, utilizando vocabulário relevante e aprendendo a se comunicar de forma eficaz em diferentes contextos. Nível B2 em diante.

At the Airport

Traveler

You are at the airport and need to find the restroom. Unfortunately, your phone battery is dead, and you need a charger. Approach a local for help.


Local

A traveler approaches you needing help to find the restroom and mentions their phone battery is dead. Guide them by explaining that the restroom is near the help desk in Terminal B and they should follow the signage for directions. Also, inform them that they can find a charging station near Gate 15, which is a bit of a walk, but there are signs pointing to it.


At the Mall

Shopper

You are at the mall and need to exchange foreign currency, You only have BRL (Brazilian Real) and only in the bank, you need US dollars. Additionally, your feet hurt, and you need to buy sandals. Ask a local for assistance.

Security Guard

A shopper needs help with exchanging currency and finding a place to buy sandals. Guide them by explaining that the currency exchange is near the main entrance, and they will need their ID and will receive a receipt after the transaction. For the sandals, suggest they head to the shoe store next to the food court, which has a good selection and is just a short walk from here.


At the Hotel

Guest

You need to check in at the hotel, get information about check-out, breakfast, and request towels. You also need to pay for your stay as it has not been paid in advance. Ask a local for help.

Desk Clerk

A guest needs help with several tasks at the hotel. Guide them by explaining that they should go to the reception to check in with their reservation details. They should ask the reception about the check-out time and where and when breakfast is served. Let them know that they can request towels at the reception, it costs 2 US$ each. Inform them that since their stay hasn't been paid in advance, they will need to pay at check-in, and the reception will handle this.


At the Restaurant

Customer

You are at a restaurant and have a stomachache. You need to order something familiar and easily digestible. Ask a local for help in explaining this to the waiter/waitress.


Waiter

A customer approaches you and needs help to order food that is familiar and easy on their stomach. Guide them by suggesting they tell the waiter they have a stomachache and need something easy to digest. Recommend they ask for plain rice or a simple soup, which are usually safe options. Remind them to explain any dietary restrictions they have to the waiter so suitable dishes can be recommended.
