The Man Who Wrote His Own Destiny

Sylvester was a poor man. He wanted to be an actor, but nobody gave him a chance. He lived in a small apartment and even sold his dog to buy food. One day, he watched a boxing match between Muhammad Ali and Chuck Wepner. That fight gave him an idea. He wrote a script in three days.

Many producers liked the script, but they didn’t want Sylvester as the main actor. They offered him money, but he refused.

He wanted to be the main character. After many rejections, one studio accepted. They gave him 1 million dollars. It was a very low budget.

They shot the film in only 28 days. The crew worked fast. The production used real locations in Philadelphia. The actors didn’t have many costumes. Some scenes had real people.

He called it Rocky. And Sylvester Stallone became one of the most important actors of the world.

He contacted Jim Peterik and Frankie Sullivan. They wrote Eye of the Tiger in three days. They matched the guitar riff to the punches in the montage, and they took the phrase “eye of the tiger” directly from a line in the movie. The song was in the Billboard list for six weeks, earned Survivor a Grammy, and got an Oscar nomination.
