Condicionais em inglês: zero, first, second e third conditional

São quatro condicionais com if: zero (verdades gerais — if + presente, presente), first (futuro real — if + presente, will), second (hipótese — if + passado, would), third (passado hipotético — if + past perfect, would have). Regra de ouro: não use “will” logo depois de “if”.

Condicional assusta, mas é só um sistema de quatro padrões — cada um para um grau de realidade: do que é sempre verdade ao que já não pode mudar. Acerte o tempo verbal de cada lado do if e você domina todos.

Como escolher

Zero: algo sempre verdadeiro (ciência, regras). If you don't water plants, they die.
First: condição real no futuro. If we close the deal, we'll celebrate.
Second: situação imaginária/improvável no presente. If I were the CEO, I would change this. (note: if I were)
Third: arrependimento/hipótese sobre o passado (já não muda). If we had launched earlier, we would have won the market.

O ângulo executivo: negociar e ponderar cenários

Condicionais são a língua da negociação e do planejamento: “If you commit to a year, we'll offer a discount.” (first), “If we had more budget, we would hire two more.” (second), “If we had acted sooner, we would have avoided the loss.” (third). Dominar os quatro = argumentar com nuance.

“if I was” formal: em hipótese, prefira if I were (subjuntivo).
